Independent film casting:
Titus Chong is helping two UH film students cast their short film, KILL HAOLE DAY. Despite the title, it is actually a cautionary tale about the dangers of passing racial discrimination down from one generation to the next. The script won a Grace Abernethy scriptwriting award. Here are the characters that are still uncast:
Kenny Lee: A local Asian teenager, lanky, Kenny is smart and a bit nerdy. He struggles to find a common bond with his father.
Ken Lee: Kenny’s father, Asian in his mid-40’s with an athlectic build. Ken is gruff and speaks with a pidgin accent. He loves his son but has a difficult time relating to him.
Evan: Kenny’s friend, a lanky Caucasian teenager. Evan is extremely intelligent and nerdy.
Tyson: Kenny’s friend, a local Asian teenager. Tyson is very smart and nerdy, and is well spoken.
1970’s Ken Lee: a teenage Ken Lee.
Patty: Kenny’s mother, local Asian woman in her mid-40’s.
Leonard: tall, slim teenager, Caucasian male with long blonde hair.

Laurie Arakaki, the director, has a B.A. in English and has worked for HMSA's Island Scene magazine and The Honolulu Adverstiser. Lilah Akin, the producer, has a B.A. in Communications and has worked on several local TV and film projects.
